Colortel v1.0
by John Wright
Released on 04-01-90
Colortel is a program in which a Telix user may enter messages on a BBS
with ansi color instead of the usual black and white text. Many extended Ascii
characters may also be entered and colorized using various keys. This program
requires Telix, and has been tested thoroughly on version 3.12. Colortel
will not work on Telix versions older than 3.0.
Colortel is very similar to another ansi coloring program that is
available, however this program incorporates what the author considers to be
easier keystrokes; both to use and to remember.
Colortel.zip should contain the following files: colortel.key
colortel.doc
keys.txt
printit.bat
Keys.txt is a key usage index file for this program. To print this file, type
"printit" and enter your printer's device number.
There are two ways in which to effectively use Colortel.
1. Rename colortel.key to telix.key in your Telix directory. Telix will
then load Colortel automatically everytime you run Telix.
*** Special Note: Be careful! if you already have keystrokes defined in
your telix definition file (telix.key), you will erase them when copying
colortel.key to telix.key. You can check to see if you have keys
already defined by calling up telix.key with a text editor, or by
pressing alt-K while in Telix, choosing "Regular", and then choosing
"Display". If you have keys defined, they will be displayed now.
If you have keys already defined, and still want to call Colortel
up automatically whenever you run Telix, you may do so. Simply write
down the keys you have already defined, copy Colortel.key to Telix.key
and then add your extra key sequences by pressing alt-K, choosing
"Regular", and then choosing "Edit".
2. Place Colortel.key in your Telix directory. Run Telix, press alt-K,
choose "Regular", choose "Load", and type "Colortel". This will load
Colortel, but Colortel must be loaded this way each time you run Telix.
Once Colortel is loaded, colors and special characters may be chosen by
pressing the following keys:
FUNCTION KEYS CONTROL-FUNCTION KEYS
F1 Reset to normal F1 Flashing Foreground (text)
F2 Bright Colors F2 Inverse text
F3 Red Foreground F3 Red Background
F4 Green Foreground F4 Green Background
F5 Yellow Foreground F5 Yellow Background
F6 Blue Foreground F6 Blue Background
F7 Magenta Foreground F7 Magenta Background
F8 Cyan Foreground F8 Cyan Background
F9 White Foreground F9 White Background
F10 Black Foreground F10 Black Background
SHIFT-FUNCTION KEYS ALT-FUNCTION KEYS ALT-NUMBER KEYS
F1 ┌ F1 ╔ 1 ░
F2 ┐ F2 ╗ 2 ▒
F3 └ F3 ╚ 3 ▓
F4 ┘ F4 ╝ 4 █
F5 ─ F5 ═ 5 ▄
F6 │ F6 ║ 6 ▀
F7 ├ F7 ╠ 7
F8 ┤ F8 ╣ 8
F9 ┴ F9 ╩ 9
F10 ┬ F10 ╦
**IMPORTANT!!**
The "F1" key will reset the text mode to normal and must be entered when you
are finished with your message in order to reset the BBS's messages to normal
text. Failure to do this will quickly make you very unpopular with the local
SysOps and their users.
The "F1" key is also used to reset your colors to normal after the "F2"
(Bright colors) key has been selected.
"Ctrl-F2" (Inverse text) works for normal black and white text only.
The shift-function keys and alt-function keys will enter extended ascii
characters that will allow borders and boxes to be created. These of course
may also be colorized using the other keystrokes.
The alt-number keys allow the entry of some other commonly used extended
ascii characters which may also be colorized.
